About Mabel Barr and Hamster Huey Press
|
Mabel Barr has been a storyteller nearly all her life. When she was six, she regaled her friends with stories of her fantastic adventures. Her classmates believed she lived a double life as an ordinary child during the school day and a fairy princess on the holidays. Even when her friends were old enough to tell truth from fiction, they begged her to tell her tales, and they liked to pretend that her stories were true. She earned the nickname "Mabel Make-Believe." After a brief career as an elementary school teacher, Ms. Barr became a sought-after professional storyteller, traveling a circuit that has taken her through nearly all 48 of the contiguous states. For years, people have urged her to publish her stories in book form, but until recently, she has refused. "Story telling is such a rich art," she says. "I love my stories, and I’m always afraid that other people won’t tell them with the proper expression and voices." Now semi-retired and living in Lakebay, Washington, Ms. Barr has at last relented and published her first book, Hamster Huey and the Gooey Kablooie. Hamster Huey Press is owned and operated by Paul
Spadoni. Mr. Spadoni has been involved in graphic design and publishing in
